This is usually the time of year when we anxiously wait for warmer temps and a little sunshine. While it may still be chilly out, this photoshoot we did with the lovely Marla Moore (@MarlaMakesStuff) has us dreaming of spring.
The way she styled these light wash Paige jeans is perfection. Get to know more about Marla—a super stylish, creative, and career-driven girlboss.
Style inspiration/personal style: I've been told that my style is "comfy chic." I like to have a certain edge to my clothes, but never at the expense of comfort. Even though I'd like to look good, it's far more important for me to feel good—which results in a lot of knit sweaters and sturdy, slightly loose-fitting jeans. I'm also all about grey (fitting for Seattle, right?). All grey everything!
I love jeans because ... they work for me in basically any situation. They're the ultimate go-to, especially when they're a quality pair that fits perfectly.
Occupation: Art Director at Amazon in the Consumer Engagement Design Group
Professional ambitions: I want to do great work with amazing people. I feel that I've been really fortunate with the opportunities I've had to work with stellar individuals across both agency and in-house design; ultimately culminating in my current employment in the Engagement Design Group at Amazon. I work with some of the best and most creative people I've ever known—and that makes going to work exciting each and every day.
Work/office style: All the dogs. Seriously, one of my favorite things about working in Amazon is that I can always count on a friendly dog being in the office. There are currently 5 dogs in my team's space alone!
Work philosophy: Speak softly, kill 'em with kindness, and hustle.
Professional accomplishment(s) you’re most proud of: Illustrating and publishing my own adult coloring books is pretty high up there. I set a goal of drawing a letter a day to complete a themed alphabet—each in a single sitting—and pretty soon I'd completed and published two books. Crazy.
Hobbies: Lettering—every single day. I love illustration and letter forms, so it's a natural fit. I started lettering on Starbucks cups when I first moved to Seattle in 2012, and it took off from there. Now it's a full-blown passion, fueled primarily by my daily Instagram endeavors (@MarlaMakesStuff).
Bucket list: New Zealand, Cinque Terra, the Dingle Coast. My bucket list is pretty much comprised of destinations. I was lucky enough to travel extensively in Europe during the time I lived in Germany; but when it comes to travel, it's never enough. I've got the bug, bad.
Favorite quotes: "To feel the joy of life... To separate oneself from the burden, the angst, the anguish that we all encounter every day. To say I am alive, I am wonderful, I am. I am. That is something to aspire to."—The Art of Racing in the Rain
Life accomplishment(s) you’re most proud of: Moving to Seattle to start a new life, without knowing anyone or ever having visited the city. I came out here for a job and decided to stick around, and it's been the best decision I've ever made.
