In between sizes? We’re making the call

Aug. 24, 2016
Hudson nico skinny Fitcode denim boutique size recommendations

I’m a size 29 ½. (I can be a 29 or 30—it just depends on the day). And, on top of that, some brands just run small and are better for straighter gals, and some run a tad bigger and have more room for curves.

While you can always shop with confidence with our Fitcode size recommendations, here’s the full size report for my fellow in betweeners.

7 For All Mankind: 74AM generally runs true-to-size and has room in the booty, but can be tight in the calves and thighs. In-between size tip: round up.

Blank NYC: Blank favors a straighter figure, and we’ve recommended it as such. In-between size tip: round up.

Citizens of Humanity: This brand can run small, you’ll see some size recommendations in the boutique. In-between size tip (and need room for curves): round up.

Frame Denim: Frame generally runs true-to-size. Some fits are very slim, but most washes have excellent stretch and curve room. In-between size tip: round up.

Hudson: This brand has some great fits for curvy ladies and straighter ladies, yet most styles are cut to fit like a second skin. In-between size tip: round up.

JAG Jeans: JAG runs a size big compared to most other brands on our site, and we already give those size recommendations. In-between size tip: still size down.

J Brand: This brand runs small compared to almost all others, and their styles favor a straighter figure. We’ve already made full size recommendations in the boutique. In-between size tip: round up.

JOE’S Jeans: JOE’S loves curves—most styles have room for muscular thighs and calves. In-between size tip: round down.

Kut from the Kloth: Kut has some great universal fits, but generally runs large. In-between size tip: round down.

Levi’s: Generally a smaller fit, and tends to shrink a tiny bit in the wash. In-between size tip: round up. Bonus tip: The 501’s are size flexible. Go up another size for a baggy slouch; down for a skinnier boyfriend; or get your usual size for the classic boyfriend fit.

NYDJ: We’ve already recommended a size down on every NYDJ, and we mean it! They are designed for curvy ladies and run a full size big. In-between size tip: still size down.

Paige: Another reason it’s one of our all-time favorites, Paige usually runs true-to-size. Keep in mind that most fits are fairly slim and body hugging. In-between size tip: round up.

You got this, ladies. Remember, we’ve already curated the Fitcode denim boutique to serve up styles that work for your unique body shape and provided size recommendations. But we know it’s always good to have back-up, so you can shop with confidence.

We’ve got nothing but love for hometown girls, like Seattle-based creative Allison Wagner. Allison blogs on design, style, and lifestyle over at West Coast Aesthetic.

In addition to her successful blog, Allison is a web designer for one of our all-time favorites, Nordstrom. And, in all her spare time, Allison is collaborating with a group of local influencers to present Seattle Style Lab—an interactive blogger workshop.

We loved helping Allison find her perfect fit … and we were so pleased to hear her verdict: heavenly denim.

Fitcode pick: Skinny Classique in Brotox by Blank NYC

“When it comes to jeans, I'm often very intimidated. I'm intimidated by the process it takes to find the perfect fit, length and size … As a result, denim is often the most neglected part of my wardrobe because I don't have the patience for the try on process.

It wasn't until I was introduced to my favorite pair of jeans to date that I've changed my tune. Thanks to Fitcode, I was introduced to my new pair of [jeans].”
