All the Rage: Frayed Denim

June 30, 2015
Frayed Hems

We all have one ... that friend who can rock any style effortlessly and somehow make oversized sweatshirts and ripped jeans look cool and modern. We love her, kind of want to be her, but really just want in on how she does it! Well, let me give you your first hint … frayed denim! We are seeing more and more articles, pictures, and people on the streets wearing frayed denim and looking perfectly put together. And you know what? We’re absolutely loving it!

There was a recent article published on Glamour.com that talked about frayed denim being one of the biggest fashion trends this fall. It comes as no surprise to us that these raw cuts will be big, especially given the popularity of distressed denim for the past couple of years. If you want to up your street style game, this look should be your first stop.

Frayed looks

As always, we’re sharing a few styles from our denim boutique to make it even easier for you to find your perfect pair—see if these frayed jeans are in your Fitcode. You can also check out some of the looks we curated on Pinterest. Tres chic!

5 Styles We’re Loving: Colored Denim

June 27, 2015
Colored Denim

It’s officially summer! You know what that means? Time for bright colors and bold outfits. So for this week’s “5 Styles We’re Loving,” we’re sharing our favorite colored denim.

  1. Nico Mid-Rise Super Skinny by Hudson: I mean, what’s not to love about this style?! The bright fire engine red color and the minimal distressed look make these not only fun but chic. Oh, and they’re on sale for $124.
  2. Jude by J Brand: J Brand has a good selection of colored denim and this flamingo color is one of our favorites. Not too bright and not too skinny—perfect for keeping it casual. You can’t beat the $75 price tag either.
  3. High Waist Ankle Skinny by 7 For All Mankind in Dandelion: This pair is super chic! Cute to pair with wedges (as pictured above) or even flats. The high waist makes these are great if you’re going for that vintage look. Also, they’re on sale for $99!
  4. Nico Mid-Rise Super Skinny by Hudson: We know, we know. Yes, we put the same style in our top 5 twice. But … we just can’t get over this gorgeous green color (also, these aren’t distressed). This style also comes at a lower price of $88 (on sale).
  5. High Waist Ankle Skinny by 7 For All Mankind in Ultramarine: Here’s another style we’re unapologetically sharing twice. This blue color gives these jeans a sleek and modern look. If you’re planning a vacay this summer, you should definitely bring these jeans along.

Now that we’ve shared our favorite colored jeans, what are some of your favorites? Come chat with us on Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram!

Flares: Don’t Call It a Comeback

June 25, 2015
Celebs in Flares

Fashion trends come and fashion trends go. This past spring, we saw flares come back in a big way. Everywhere we looked—from celebs to our favorite fashion bloggers—everyone was sporting this throwback vintage look. While they seem fresh and new again, flare jeans have actually been around for decades.

Back in the ‘70s, flares (aka “bell-bottoms”) were all the rage. Who can forget how beautifully Farrah Fawcett used to rock them? Then we saw a resurgence of the jeans in the '90s (flare jeans and floral tops were totally our jam).

70s Flares

The biggest struggle with flares is finding a pair without having to tailor them for the perfect length (Protip: your flares should just barely graze the floor). But brands are taking notice and making it easy for women to shop. Take 7 For All Mankind. They recently announced plans to release a line targeting women of “average” height. Whether or not you have to make the extra investment to get them tailored, we think they’re worth it. After all, it doesn’t look like they’ll be going away anytime soon.

It may be hard to break away from those skinnies, but we know there’s room in your wardrobe for both. So, give this retro look a try if you haven’t already.

Check your Fitcode to see if any of these styles are your perfect match. Here are links to the styles above: 1, 2, 3, 4.

Who doesn’t love a good deal?! We sure do. In fact, one of our favorite things to do is peruse our denim boutique and find great deals from our favorite denim brands. So for this week’s installment of “5 Styles We’re Loving,” we thought we’d share a few of those deals with you. Check them out below!

  1. Krista Super Skinny By Hudson: $119: These Hudson jeans are a great pair of skinnies with just the right amount of the distressed look. The skinny ankle-grazers make them great to pair with flats or heels.
  2. Ellis by J Brand: $79: If you like straight-leg jeans but don’t necessarily want to go for skinny jeans, these J Brand jeans are a great choice. Their slight stretch makes them super comfortable.
  3. Modern Straight by 7 For All Mankind: $99: The Modern Straight jeans are wonderfully stretchy! The dark wash gives them a truly modern look which makes them great for dressing up. And the slim opening at the bottom = great for heels.
  4. Arielle by Citizens of Humanity: $113: We love this style from Citizens of Humanity. From their super stretch factor to their light wash, these are the perfect casual jean.
  5. Skyline Skinny by Paige: $99: The Skyline Skinny from Paige should be a wardrobe staple. Easy to dress up or down and really comfy! Their wash gives them a hint of that vintage look, which is oh-so-hot right now.

These are just a handful of styles currently on sale. Be sure to browse our denim boutique to find even more!

New Brands on Fitcode: Kut from the Kloth and Hudson Jeans

June 15, 2015

Happy Tuesday, denim friends.

It’s been a beautiful few days out here in Seattle and we’re celebrating by adding two new denim brands to our collection! The Fitcode team has been hard at work hand-measuring and analyzing stacks of new jeans to release into our denim boutique, including new brands Kut from the Kloth and Hudson Jeans. We’re especially excited about the addition of Kut from the Kloth, as it’s our first denim brand under $100 ... you asked, we listened!

Brand Highlight—Kut from the Kloth

Kut from the Kloth jeans are curve friendly, have just the right amount of stretch, and come in an array of beautiful washes. Nearly 50% of all Kut jeans we measured had the unique addition of a third belt loop on the back (so, if belts are your thing, these jeans are for you).

The Diana Relaxed Skinny (as seen on me above, Fitcode 700 in a size 4) is a Fitcode staff favorite. It isn’t as baggy as a boyfriend jean but also not as tight as a skinny. The Diana is the perfect go-to for the gal who likes a more relaxed, easy feel to her jeans. These babies are super comfortable!

Katie, our karaoke singing, code slinging, designer extraordinaire, was gracious enough to participate in a lunch time photo shoot and boy am I glad she did! These Kut from the Kloth Diana Relaxed Skinny jeans (Fitcode 715, size 14) fit her perfectly. So much so, I think I saw her trying to sneak out of the office with them! Looking good, girl.

Ladies, meet Cari. Cari is our Fitcode Jean-ius (like that?) and the cutest thing you’ve seen in these Kut from the Kloth Catherine Slim Boyfriend jeans (Fitcode 715, size 4). Cari hand-measures all of our jeans, writes our quirky fit notes, and eats most of the office’s supply of jelly beans. Naturally, Cari styled these slim boyfriends perfectly, with a rolled leg and slouchy fit. We can all only hope to be half as stylish as this one. And yes, namast’ay in bed today too.

So there you have it, denim lovers. Look for the new Hudson’s and Kut from the Kloth jeans (also updates to Citizens of Humanity, 7 for all Mankind, and Joe’s) in the denim boutique now!

Happy shopping!

5 Styles We’re Loving: Boyfriend Jeans

June 13, 2015
top-5-boyfriend-jeans

Whether or not you’ve embraced them, boyfriend jeans are here to stay. We’d even argue that they should be a wardrobe staple. They’re one of those versatile pieces that you can dress up or down.

If you’re a latecomer to this trend and you’re looking for a good pair (or maybe you just want a new pair), we’ve got you covered. Check out 5 of our favorite styles.

  1. Josefina Feminine Boyfriend by 7 for All Mankind ($147—currently on sale!): The Josefina boyfriend jeans are a perfect choice: The distressed denim and optional rolled cuff make it easy to switch up your look. They’re a little grungy, but can still be dressed up with a nice pair of heels.
  2. Emerson in Crosby by Citizens of Humanity ($258): Like true boyfriend jeans these are made to slouch a bit. But, they’re also slim so they won’t feel too baggy. The loose fitting style makes them super comfy (and perfect to wear on weekends)!
  3. Jake in Gothic by J Brand ($125): We’re absolutely obsessed with this pair! And with a price tag of $125, they’re a steal! The Jake boyfriend jean is a great addition to your wardrobe—after all, you can never have too many pairs of black jeans/pants.
  4. 1984 Boyfriend by 7 for All Mankind ($245): These throw-back jeans are super stylish—from the high waist to the loose straight leg, you’ll look trendy in whatever you style these with.
  5. Jimmy Jimmy Crop by Paige ($199): This style is a skinnier boyfriend jean, so if you have a straight figure, these are a great choice. Also, if you’re a little hesitant to take to this trend, these are a great option for easing into it.

Now that you’ve seen our 5 favorite styles, are you ready to embrace the boyfriend jeans trend? Be sure to report back after you try a pair!

3 Reasons Why I Created Fitcode

June 9, 2015
why-i-created-fitcode

Hello denim lover!

Welcome to the Fitcode blog, Off the Cuff! I’m Rian, a founder here at Fitcode and the lucky lady who gets to introduce you to our company. If this is your first time here, you may be wondering who we are and why we do what we do, so here’s the 411. As a model and lover of all things fashion, I shop… a lot. While I’d love to spend my days strolling through stores while drinking iced coffee, realistically I’m traveling to and from jobs, walking my giant dog, or checking in over at team Fitcode. So, I end up doing most of my shopping online. Oh holy frustration! What should be an easy, pain-free process oftentimes becomes a whirlwind of wrong sizes, crumpled receipts, and return postage. I knew there had to be a better way and now there is … Fitcode! These are the 3 main reasons I created Fitcode and why I can’t wait to share it with you all.

  1. Unrealistic images. Clips, pins, Photoshop… oh my! After years of modeling, I know two things for certain. One, the left side of my face is prettier than the right. And two, very little is realistic about images online or in print (which my right side is thankful for). Jeans are clipped and pinned down the back to perfectly fit my leg, inches of fabric are added to lengthen pants, and don’t even get me going on Photoshop! What you need to know is this: A ton of effort goes into making a photo beautiful. What you see is very rarely what you get. At Fitcode, it’s important to us to show unedited and unaltered images and videos of real women in real jeans. There are no smoke and mirrors here.
  2. Same size, different shapes. Not all size 27’s are the same. After years in the fashion industry, I’ve learned two girls can be the same size but have very different shapes. I’ll use Bri (my co-founder) and myself as an example. I wear a size 27 and have a curvy figure. Bri wears a size 27 but has a straight figure. A killer pair of jeans on her could give me a muffin top for days, while a perfect pair of jeans for me may look like “mom jeans” on her. It may sound like a riddle but it’s nothing more than an acceptance of our unique shapes. Size is just a number and Fitcode looks beyond that number to pair women with jeans that flatter their unique figure.
  3. Lack of standardized sizing. I can wear a 27 in one brand, a 29 in the next, and maybe even a 26 in a third (maybe I’m pushing it with the 26 but you get the idea). Denim sizing isn’t standardized and it’s a huge pain in the bum for us all. Fitcode hand-measures all of our jeans and standardizes them in our fit details page so you can see inseam, waist, hip, and even rise measurements for the brands we offer. Oh, and did I mention we can also suggest the correct size for you in each jean? Yup, its true.

Check out Fitcode for yourself, take our fit quiz, and go find some jeans that fit your beautiful figure. We’d love to know what you think after you try your first pair of Fitcode jeans, so share pics with us by using the #myfitcode hashtag.

Happy Shopping!
