We’re all for women making their mark in a men’s world. That’s why we outfitted the badass ladies of the Scotch Pine barbershop in their perfect denim fit.

Stepping into Scotch Pine is like stepping back into the old world of artisan barbershops. Emily, the shop’s co-owner, has created a warm, welcoming space with the perfect old-meets-new ambiance.

Meet the ladies of Scotch Pine

Emily wanted a high-waisted skinny style that would work for her lifestyle as a mother, barber, and shop owner, while working with her wardrobe mainstays: a black leather jacket and "big-ass hoop earrings."

We styled Emily in Paige’s Hoxton High Rise Skinny in Vista. She was sold—and her adorable pup, Paco, was on board, too.

This is usually the time of year when we anxiously wait for warmer temps and a little sunshine. While it may still be chilly out, this photoshoot we did with the lovely Marla Moore (@MarlaMakesStuff) has us dreaming of spring.

Meet Marla

Style inspiration/personal style: I've been told that my style is "comfy chic." I like to have a certain edge to my clothes, but never at the expense of comfort. Even though I'd like to look good, it's far more important for me to feel good—which results in a lot of knit sweaters and sturdy, slightly loose-fitting jeans. I'm also all about grey (fitting for Seattle, right?). All grey everything!

I love jeans because ... they work for me in basically any situation. They're the ultimate go-to, especially when they're a quality pair that fits perfectly.

Occupation: Art Director at Amazon in the Consumer Engagement Design Group

Professional ambitions: I want to do great work with amazing people. I feel that I've been really fortunate with the opportunities I've had to work with stellar individuals across both agency and in-house design; ultimately culminating in my current employment in the Engagement Design Group at Amazon. I work with some of the best and most creative people I've ever known—and that makes going to work exciting each and every day.

Work/office style: All the dogs. Seriously, one of my favorite things about working in Amazon is that I can always count on a friendly dog being in the office. There are currently 5 dogs in my team's space alone!

Work philosophy: Speak softly, kill 'em with kindness, and hustle.

Professional accomplishment(s) you’re most proud of: Illustrating and publishing my own adult coloring books is pretty high up there. I set a goal of drawing a letter a day to complete a themed alphabet—each in a single sitting—and pretty soon I'd completed and published two books. Crazy.

Hobbies: Lettering—every single day. I love illustration and letter forms, so it's a natural fit. I started lettering on Starbucks cups when I first moved to Seattle in 2012, and it took off from there. Now it's a full-blown passion, fueled primarily by my daily Instagram endeavors (@MarlaMakesStuff).

Bucket list: New Zealand, Cinque Terra, the Dingle Coast. My bucket list is pretty much comprised of destinations. I was lucky enough to travel extensively in Europe during the time I lived in Germany; but when it comes to travel, it's never enough. I've got the bug, bad.

Fitcode takes next steps with Hudson Jeans deal, via WWD

[Fitcode's] integration on the denim brand's site is a first for the fashion technology firm as it looks to grow.

Hudson Jeans’ new partnership with Fitcode represents the next phase of growth for the young fashion tech company.

Fitcode’s technology aims to help make it easier for customers to shop for denim online by taking a simple quiz that can lead them to the right fit, as opposed to a more narrow focus simply on size. In doing so, the company also hopes to be a go-to solution for denim brands looking to reduce the return rate.

Fitcode, since its founding by cofounder and chief executive officer Rian Buckley, has so far operated its own site where shoppers can take the quiz and then find fit suggestions and make purchases there from about a dozen brands, including Frame Denim, Seven For All Mankind, Paige and NYDJ. Hudson Jeans will be the first brand to actually integrate the Fitcode technology and experience directly into the Hudson e-commerce site. The offering is currently only available for women’s jeans.

The deal with Hudson is an important step for Fitcode, which about a year ago announced the close of its $1.8 million series A round of financing, led by Seattle investment firm Harvey Partners.

“This is exactly where we want to be,” said director of marketing Stephanie Chacharon. “We see this as the first step in the next evolution of Fitcode. We want to be an additive tool in [brands’] existing consumer path.”

Men’s is something the company will eventually tackle “once we conquer the women’s market,” Buckley said. “We want to stay focused on what we’re set out to do.”

The company now counts about 10 full-time employees and began generating revenue in July. In the next few months, it will look to raise a series B, according to Buckley. She’s forecasting a profit for Fitcode within the next year, with a lot of that dependent on how quickly partnerships with more denim brands and retailers could come online. It’s the latter that will also prove an integral part of the business as it scales and looks to bring the Fitcode experience to stores.

“As we’re seeing these partnerships and integrations, the future is bringing this experience eventually into stores so we can make that shopping easier online and in store,” Buckley said.

The company is currently in talks with Nordstrom about possibly testing the technology, but the focus over the next six months remains on refining Fitcode and also identifying problems customers have in store so that Fitcode can be tailored around that.

Retailers appear to be receptive, Buckley said.

“It’s been a really interesting process,” she added. “The product that we’re offering seems like such a no-brainer to [retailers] when we talk to them about it and why we’re doing it.”

I’m a size 29 ½. (I can be a 29 or 30—it just depends on the day). And, on top of that, some brands just run small and are better for straighter gals, and some run a tad bigger and have more room for curves.

While you can always shop with confidence with our Fitcode size recommendations, here’s the full size report for my fellow in betweeners. 


7 For All Mankind: 74AM generally runs true-to-size and has room in the booty, but can be tight in the calves and thighs. In-between size tip: round up.

Blank NYC: Blank favors a straighter figure, and we’ve recommended it as such. In-between size tip: round up.

Citizens of Humanity: This brand can run small, you’ll see some size recommendations in the boutique. In-between size tip (and need room for curves): round up.

Frame Denim: Frame generally runs true-to-size. Some fits are very slim, but most washes have excellent stretch and curve room. In-between size tip: round up.

Hudson: This brand has some great fits for curvy ladies and straighter ladies, yet most styles are cut to fit like a second skin. In-between size tip: round up.

JAG Jeans: JAG runs a size big compared to most other brands on our site, and we already give those size recommendations. In-between size tip: still size down.

J Brand: This brand runs small compared to almost all others, and their styles favor a straighter figure. We’ve already made full size recommendations in the boutique. In-between size tip: round up.

JOE’S Jeans: JOE’S loves curves—most styles have room for muscular thighs and calves. In-between size tip: round down.

Kut from the Kloth: Kut has some great universal fits, but generally runs large. In-between size tip: round down.

Levi’s: Generally a smaller fit, and tends to shrink a tiny bit in the wash. In-between size tip: round up. Bonus tip: The 501’s are size flexible. Go up another size for a baggy slouch; down for a skinnier boyfriend; or get your usual size for the classic boyfriend fit.

NYDJ: We’ve already recommended a size down on every NYDJ, and we mean it! They are designed for curvy ladies and run a full size big. In-between size tip: still size down.

Paige: Another reason it’s one of our all-time favorites, Paige usually runs true-to-size. Keep in mind that most fits are fairly slim and body hugging. In-between size tip: round up.

Yep, it’s true: Instagram is our favorite social platform, by far. It’s an endless source of inspiration from brand accounts, bloggers, and real women. We’re always on the hunt for denim inspiration (surprise, surprise), so if you’re a denim head like us, you’ll love our top 5 favorite accounts.

  1. @andicsinger: Although this account isn’t dedicated to denim, this lady has nailed tomboy chic with her effortless casual denim looks. Caution: This Sydney resident’s photos may cause serious wanderlust.
  2. @JBrandJeans: This IG account just makes us dream of all the J Brand denim styles we want in our closet. Their photos are so simple and chic and a dream for those who love minimalists looks!
  3. @denimaddicted_: As the name implies, this account is dedicated to all the denim lovers out there. It’s completely curated from people who tag their photos with #denimaddicted. We love seeing how people around the world style their denim.
  4. @PaigeDenim: Paige is one of our favorite brands—and their Insta game is strong. Their account features pics of celebs, fashion “it” girls, and other ridiculously stylish ladies that will make you want to up your everyday denim looks.
  5. @shopredone: If you love vintage Levi’s then you’re likely familiar with Redone. They specialize in reconstructing old Levi’s to fit like a glove! Just check out their feed and you’ll see what we mean.

We love white denim. (ICYMI, check out our tips for finding the perfect-fitting white denim.) We especially love how easily it can be dressed up or down.

Tips for finding the perfect-fitting white denim

White denim is white hot this season, so we set out to find the perfect pair of white jeans. Here’s what we learned.

Size up

Our fit tester (see also: CEO & co-founder), Rian, tried styles from Paige, DL1961, and FRAME Denim. No matter the brand, each and every style ran small.

Rian even tried on her go-to denim—Paige Verdugo in a size 27—and she could barely button the white 27s. Lesson learned.

We sized up for our second fit test, and the 28s fit Rian perfectly.

Sizing up not only ensured that Rian could move comfortably in her white jeans—it also got rid of the knee bulge that’s all-too-common with tight white denim.

Don’t worry, we got you: After more fit testing to vet our findings, we’ve included the recommendation to size up for the white styles in our denim boutique.

Warm vs cool

Not all whites are created equal. Washes range from warm whites that aren’t quite so white-white, to crisp (and more common) cool whites.  

If you’re in search of a warm white, try Paige’s Optic White wash.

Cool white lovers, try FRAME’s Blanc wash and Paige’s Ultra White wash.

Underwear matters

Ok, we’re going to go there. White jeans should be worn with white undies, right? Wrong. White undies stick out like, well, white undies.

Pro tip: Rock nude undies with your white jeans to avoid VPL.

Coachella is here, and we couldn’t be more excited for festival season fashion.

Whether you’re making the trek to Indio or (like us) watching the style statements from afar, denim cutoffs are a must. Here’s a DIY denim cutoff tutorial from our resident Jeanius, Cari.

What you’ll need: measuring tape or ruler, fabric scissors, 4 sewing pins, LA Mag’s Coachella playlist

Coachella-ready DIY denim cutoff materials

Pick your pair: Go with a pair of jeans that you’re ready to repurpose (think: those bootcuts you never got hemmed with a ragged bottom or a pair of secondhand men’s jeans). 

Jeanius tip: You should love the fit at the top—a mid-to-high rise and a loose jean that’s one size too big work best to give enough room at the thigh opening and avoid the dreaded muffin thigh.

Step-by-step DIY:

(1) Turn your jeans inside out to avoid accidentally cutting the pockets. Then lay them flat on a table.

(2) Measure the desired distance from crotch to inseam on each side and place a pin to mark the spot. 

Jeanius tip: We’re loving shorter cutoffs with longer pockets hanging out. To get this look, go with a crotch inseam around 1 to 2 inches. GTK FYI: men’s jeans have the biggest pockets.

(3) Next, measure the outseam (the outer seam of the pant leg). Be sure to measure the same distance on each outseam from the waistband, and then mark the spot with pins. This will be about 9 to 10 inches, depending on the jean rise. 

Jeanius tip: Measure straight across each leg to inseam pin for a level hem, or get a slanted hem look by making the outseams slightly shorter than the inseam.

(4) It’s time to snip! Cut a straight line from the outseam to the inseam pins. Cut a little below your pins, so you have room to fix a mistake. 

Jeanius tip: Fold up the pockets before you cut, so they don’t get snipped on accident!

(5) Add a little extra edge by cutting a small slit in the side of each outseam (optional).

(6) Wash once to prevent the never-ending hem unravel.

Style tips: Sew a wide lace ribbon trim underneath the raw hem. Use sandpaper to further distress the wash and create fading.

Fitcode 101: Inseam & Height

The Fitcode team is constantly listening for feedback from our users. One topic that comes up often is inseam and height.

First, let us dispel a common misconception. Many people think that inseam is always directly related to height. It can be true but is oftentimes not the case. For example, you may consider yourself tall, however, you could have a long torso and short legs. In this case, a regular inseam would be ideal for you. Because this is often the case, we like to give our users control so they can select the inseam that works best for them.

Inseam - Style Filter

Fitcode lets you search for jeans by inseam in two different ways. The first (see above image) is by selecting “short inseam” or “tall inseam” under the Style filter. These filters will show you jeans that are either super long or shorter versions of the original style. Some of our favorite styles you can find by searching one of these filters are 7 For All Mankind’s Tailorless line and The Leggy from Paige. The second option (see below image) for finding the right inseam is to use the inseam filter which will show you inseam by inches.

There’s no doubt that choosing the right inseam is important—after all, it can prevent you from getting the dreaded high waters or taking an unnecessary trip to the seamstress to get your jeans hemmed.

We know shopping for the right inseam is a big pain point for many of you. We’ve heard your feedback and we’ll soon be adding in another question in our quiz that addresses inseam. Stay tuned for an even more personalized experience for your denim shopping needs. But in the meantime, don’t forget about those filters!

Fashion trends come and fashion trends go. You may have been surprised when flares made a comeback but there’s no doubt, they’re here to stay for the foreseeable future. And building on that trend lately has been the cropped flare.

At first sight, this style may seem a little...strange. Not gonna lie, I was definitely surprised when I saw all the hype about this being the next big denim trend. That was until I saw them styled. Now, I’m in love. They’re seriously super chic and the perfect transition piece into spring.

Spring is still over a month away, but that doesn’t mean we can’t get into the spirit early. It’s been a long winter (at least for some of us) and I don’t know about you, but I’m ready for more sunshine and a brighter wardrobe!

One of my all-time favorite jeans is Paige’s Verdugo skinny. Made with Paige’s ridiculously soft and comfortable Transcend fabric, this style is one that you’ll want in every color. And I recently noticed that there are so many good colors currently available (aside from the classic dark, medium, and light denim washes). After browsing through the different colors the first thing that came to mind was spring. Introduce some soft colors back into your wardrobe, starting with these lovely styles...

We’ve heard a lot of chatter about the rise of “athleisure” impacting denim’s popularity. While we can’t argue that we sometimes like to live in our yoga pants, we will say that there are some seriously comfy denim options out there. And let’s be honest, denim will never go out of style.

Denim brands have introduced fabrics that not only provide a comfortable, soft feel, but also keep their shape and flatter your curves in all the right places. Here’s a look at some options currently available.

Let’s start with one of our favorites—the Transcend fabric from Paige. Holy softness. Jeans from this line fit like a glove without being restrictive. This luxuriously soft fabric will not stretch out and will hold its shape throughout the day. There’s also a range of styles and washes. Here are a couple popular ones.

The weather is getting colder in Seattle and that has me daydreaming even more about vacation destinations. So you can imagine how excited I was to see the picture above that Fitcode user Melissa Picken shared with us. Melissa took this pic in her Paige jeans while on vacation in Miami. Considering how flattering they look on her, we thought we’d share this style with all of you.

The Fiona Flare from Paige is a great style that’s slim fitting in the hips and thighs but then breaks at the knee for a wide flare. And as we know, flares are so hot right now. Keep in mind, this style has an extra long inseam, so it’s great if you have longer legs. If not, you may have to take these to the tailors.

Talking Denim Trends with the Los Angeles Times

Unless you’re 5’9” or taller, shopping for jeans can be so frustrating when trying to find the right length. Don’t you hate it when you finally find a pair of jeans that fit you perfectly everywhere except they’re just too long? Then you have to take them to the seamstress and wait a week or two until they’re altered to fit your height.

Luckily, brands are starting to pay attention to this pain point and have introduced denim lines targeted to women of average height. 7 For All Mankind has their Tailorless line and J Brand has released styles with shorter inseams. The Los Angeles Times recently wrote a piece on this trend and I was happy to share my two cents. Check out the article and let me know what you think!

Big things are happening at Fitcode HQ! We recently announced our Series A funding and we’re working hard to give you an even better online shopping experience. Over the past few months we’ve received a lot of great feedback from our awesome users and we’re looking forward to answering some of those requests.

Here are just a few things we’re currently working on.

Plus Size Options

Adding plus size options has been one of the most popular requests we’ve received. Our goal has always been to help women of all shapes and sizes find jeans that are perfect for their body type. We’re excited to announce that we’ll be adding the following plus size brands: Levi’s, Kut from the Kloth, and NYDJ!

Denim Under $100

Not everyone wants to pay for premium denim—and we totally get it. Many people have reached out asking for denim options under $100. In addition to Kut from the Kloth (currently available on Fitcode), we’re working on adding Levi’s to our denim boutique. Are there other brands you’d like us to add? Drop us a line and share your recommendation with us.

More Videos

One of the Fitcode features we’ve always been really proud of is our videos. For most denim styles, we’ll show you a video of a model with a similar body type wearing a particular style. This gives you a better idea of what the jeans will look like on you. More videos will be coming your way! We’re continuing to hire more models in more sizes and plan on filming new styles and brands of jeans.

If you’ve done any shopping recently for jackets, you’ve probably noticed that moto and bomber jackets are dominating right now. Adding one of these jackets to your outfit will instantly give you a street style chic look.

3 Flares You Need Right Now (On Sale)

We love Nordstrom (who doesn’t?) for so many reasons, but we have to say the one reason at the top of our list is their sales. They started price matching other retailers that are offering lower prices on items and they always have sweet deals on denim.

The Fitcode team is always on the prowl for a good denim deal and when we saw the recent marked-down items at Nordstrom, we had to share with you. Of course, there are tons of steals, but we thought we’d share our favorite flares. After all, flares are the hot trend right now and if you haven’t jumped on the bandwagon, why not do it now with a discounted pair?

The Skyline Boot from Paige is a bootcut jean, so they obviously don’t have that full-blown ‘70s flare look. This is great if you’re just easing into the trend. They’re subtle, classic, and super comfortable. They’re made with Paige’s Transcend fabric, which is really soft and stretchy.

Another favorite of ours is the Tailorless “A” Pocket Flare from 7 For All Mankind. This style is especially great for all of our shorter gals out there. It’s often hard to find jeans that are the perfect length (especially flares), if you need a short inseam. These are your pair! 7’s Tailorless line is geared toward women of average heights. We also love the classic “A” embroidery design on the back pockets.

The Mia Mid Rise Flare from Hudson Jeans is also on sale right now. Disclaimer: We don’t have these on Fitcode (yet!), but they were just too good not to share. We love the vintage wash and slight distressed look of these jeans. They have a bit of a longer inseam, so if you’re on the shorter side, keep in mind that you may have to get these altered.

We think Jane from FitFabFun Mom styled these jeans perfectly.

It’s officially fall and one of our favorite looks this season is corduroy. We’ve seen flares blow up recently and now corduroy, which makes it clear: ‘70s fashion is back. If you followed any of the trends coming out of New York Fashion Week, corduroy was definitely one you noticed. And we’re welcoming it with open arms.

Denim brands have recently released new corduroy styles. Between the beautiful fall colors and comfort of corduroy, we’ll be wearing these like crazy. Here’s a few styles we love.

We just added new styles from Paige to our denim boutique and our tall gals will be happy! The Leggy is the same as Paige’s super popular Verdugo style, but with an extra long inseam. The Verdugo is popular because it’s one of the few styles out there that’s a universal good fit. It has a mid rise with an ultra skinny fit that hugs your body down to the ankle. The Leggy comes in four different washes (check the links above). All of you long-legged beauties will love this style! Find out if they're in your Fitcode. 

Fitcode announces $1.8M in Series A funding to transform how women shop for denim

We are so pleased to share our successful Series A funding news with you – Fitcode recently received $1.8 million in funding from local Seattle investment firm Harvey Partners!  It has been an exciting month here at Fitcode accepting the funding and creating our plan of priorities going forward. We listened to your feedback and are excited to be releasing more brands this fall including plus sizes, under $100 brands and new features that make online shopping even easier (clue, Fitcode to-go). Look for these new features to be live on our site within the next month!

Spring Forward: A Look at Spring 2016 Fashion

We’re barely approaching fall, but is it too early to talk about spring 2016? Not in the fashion world. Some of the biggest designers debuted their spring 2016 lines at New York Fashion Week and we’re so excited for our future wardrobe (ha!).

So what do we have to look forward to next year in the fashion world? Some major ‘70s-influenced looks. We noticed this trend throughout many of the shows during NYFW. From the hair, makeup, and obviously the fashion—everything was like a flashback to the ‘70s.

It’s only been a few days of New York Fashion Week but we’ve already seen so much hit the runway that we can’t wait to get our hands on. We’ve been following the action on social media (yes, we’re super sad we’re not there in person). BUT, it’s pretty awesome that you don’t have to be there anymore in order to see the shows. Viewing them has never been easier thanks to livestreaming.


We have to say, the show that really caught our eye over the last couple days was from LC Lauren Conrad for Kohl’s. Everything we saw was so dreamy, elegant, and beautiful. And the fact that it’s for Kohl’s is another plus—because it’s totally affordable. We loved the soft colors and lace and velvet fabrics used throughout the collection.


Below are just a few more looks we loved. The shorts. Those pants. That dress. Give us everything, please. 


We’ve got to give it up to Lauren Conrad. She’s come a long way since her days on Laguna Beach and The Hills. Work it, girl.

‘90s Fashion Revival

If you’ve paid any attention to the latest fashion trends and what’s hot for fall, then you’ve seen a serious resurgence of the ‘90s. It seems like every blog, fashion mag, and online retailer has featured this trend and while there are certain pieces we can get behind, there are definitely some that we’ll be passing on (no thanks, platform sneakers and patchwork denim).

As you can imagine, we’re pretty thrilled about certain denim trends making a comeback including overalls and jeans skirts. We’ve already talked about our love for flare jeans. It’s hard to find a denim a-line skirt with buttons that’s flattering and looks good. The one pictured above from Top Shop is one of the cutest styles we’ve seen. We’re digging regular overalls, but we also like short overalls and overall dresses.

The ‘90s fashion revival doesn’t stop at denim. We’re also seeing old-school shoes making a comeback (for better or worse). Who would’ve thought that Dr. Martens or Birkenstocks would be so popular again? We’re loving platform sandals and good ‘ol sneakers like the Keds pictured above.

Another closet staple for fall is definitely flannels. We’ve recently seen a lot of ‘90s trends make a comeback. Everything from flare jeans to overalls to crop tops—and of course, flannels. We’re all about comfortable fashion trends, so we’re happy to see so many cute flannels out there right now.

There are many ways to wear a flannel. You can take on the ‘90s grunge look and wear it tucked out of a pair of ripped jeans. Or you could go on the opposite side of the spectrum with a preppy look—skinny jeans, tucked in, with heels. We also love to wear flannels unbuttoned with a tank underneath or around the waist.

When the weather starts to cool a bit, our go-to shoes are definitely booties (to be honest, even when it’s hot, we still wear them). We love that they’re so popular right now, especially ones with a low heel because a girl knows walking in heels isn’t always the easiest. Whether you have a low or high heel bootie, you can wear them for every occasion—work, a night out on the town, hanging out on weekends.

For our last back to school outfit, we decided to go with black, grey, and gold items. Because you can never have enough black in your wardrobe. These black distressed jeans are one of our favorite styles from J Brand. They’re also really stretchy and comfortable—a good pair for a casual look. We love graphic tees, like the one pictured above. Now for the backpack. The one we chose is from Rebecca Minkoff and it’s just as stylish as her purses. The grey color is to die for! For the shoes, we went with Adidas because, well, they’re just so “in” right now. We see them everywhere! And we love it. Last, we included a few of our favorite accessories.

For our second back to school look, we kept it simple. You can never go wrong with skinnies, a cute blouse, and flats (we love these ones from Target). Finding a good bag is one of the harder things to shop for. Especially one that’s big enough to fit a laptop and/or notebooks. Madewell to the rescue! This gorgeous bag is the perfect size and it looks way more expensive than it actually costs (that’s always a good thing, right?!). And of course, you have to top off your look with great accessories—hello, gold sparkle phone case, bright floral journal, and the oh-so-necessary cute coffee mug!

5 Styles We’re Loving: Army Green Edition

With fall quickly approaching, we’re starting to see more earthy tones in the season’s clothing lines. We’re especially loving army green. Maybe it’s just us, but whether it’s a jacket or jeans, for some reason anytime we see this color mixed into someone’s outfit, it instantly looks cool. It’s no surprise that army green is dominating the fall lines—and we’re happy to see it.

The 7 For All Mankind jeans (pictured above on the left) are a classic, simple pair that would be a timeless style to add to your wardrobe. The mid rise waist and stretchiness makes them really comfortable (always a plus). They’re also really clean looking, so you can easily dress them up at night.

Pictured above in the middle are the Nico Mid Rise Super Skinny from Hudson (on sale for $62!). We’re loving the color—much darker than the army green you see from other denim lines. Maybe it’s because they’re not a true denim; they’re actually made of a polished sateen fabric. So if you’re looking for a pair to dress up, these are a good bet!

The third style pictured above is from Kut from the Kloth. First off, we have to say that we can’t get over how reasonably priced this brand is. This style is only $79! They’re a cute boyfriend fit with a trouser style. And we love the rolled up hem! All around good pair for all shapes and sizes.

We’ve already written about this particular denim style from Paige, but couldn’t resist sharing this pine green-colored version with you. It’s amazing what a simple addition of zippers can do, right? Like they say, it’s all in the details.

This last pair is also from Paige. We love a good crop, especially one that hugs the body from hips to ankles. These super soft and stretchy jeans are perfect for showing off your favorite pair of shoes.

How To Wear White Jeans After Labor Day

Remember when people used to say that wearing white jeans after Labor Day was a no-no? Well that notion is long gone. And thank the denim gods, because we love our white denim throughout the year.

Now, we’re almost certain we can all style white jeans in the spring and summer, but when it comes to transitioning into fall it gets a bit trickier. That’s why we wanted to share two of our favorite looks. You probably already have most of these items in your closet, which makes for an easy transition.

This look is one of our absolute favorites. It’s so elegant and classic. You could really wear this outfit anytime of year, but we love this look for fall, especially for work. A chambray shirt is another one of those closet staples that every woman must have. You can dress it up or down and it never goes out of style. Tuck it into your white flares, add some pumps, and throw on a statement necklace—instantly chic!

4 Ways to Style Citizens of Humanity’s Corey Jeans

Working with women’s jeans day in and day out is seriously a dream job. As a lover of fashion (and comfort!) there’s nothing better than helping women find jeans made for their unique shape. We’re constantly discovering new styles that we LOVE and want to share.

Our latest obsession here at Fitcode is Citizens of Humanity’s Corey boyfriend jean. The slouchy slim fit makes these our go-to weekend jeans. They’re made to be worn low on the hips and have a relaxed fit (they run large, so we recommend sizing down). We love their distressed and worn-in look. You can keep it casual or dress these jeans up.

Hello, denim lover and happy Thursday!

July has come and gone here at the Fitcode headquarters and with it, a lot of exciting happenings in our company. We’re ramping up our denim inventory, getting ready to launch exciting new features, and are ready to push our technology across more browsers than just Chrome!

But enough about all that, the real news is that Seattle has had—what I believe to be—the warmest, most beautiful summer in recent years and we’re all getting our fill of those wonderful rays! We celebrated last week by closing our laptops for a bit, grabbing our favorite jeans from the stock room, and heading out to the docks behind our building to take some pictures. It’s a tough job, but someone’s gotta do it!

Katie (Fitcode designer extraordinaire) and Cari (Fitcode jeanius) each grabbed their favorite two jeans and humored me as I art directed our way around the waterfront (not only are they smart, but patient, too!). Check out how great these two look.

Cari, on the left, is in 7 for all Mankind’s The Skinny in Vintage. She took advantage of the 100% cotton quality of these jeans and sized up for a more relaxed “boyfriend” feel. We love her laid-back style and could see her rocking these same jeans rolled up with a little wedge for date night!

Katie, on the right, went with Kut from the Kloth’s Diana Relaxed Skinny in Grey. She found these perfect skinnies during the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale and loves the soft knit fabric on the inside of these jeans. They may look like your average skinny jean, but they are actually soft enough to curl up and watch a movie in!

Next up, we have our fabulous Katie wearing the Leann Boyfriend from NYDJ in the Lake Arrowhead wash (left) and Cari in the ever-so-popular Edgemont from Paige in the Armstrong wash.

We love the zipper details on the Edgmont. The zippers are not functional but their placement flatters hips of all shapes and adds a bit of street style without going full-on motorcycle chic.

The Edgemont also features our favorite fabric from Paige, Transcend! The Transcend fabric is super soft and has a smoothing quality that hugs our curvy girls in all the right places.

Katie is seen here in the NYDJ Leann Boyfriend jean and we love the effortless way they flatter her curves but feel relaxed, too. The slight distressing on the legs and pockets add to the relaxed feel and you could dress this jean down by rolling the cuff and throwing on your favorite sneakers. But who would wear sneakers when you have bright yellow wedges? You’ve got diamonds on the soles of your shoes, Katie.

Hello, Fall: New Denim Styles

We may be in the middle of a hot summer, but fall fashion has arrived! We’re so excited about all of the great new styles that are now in our denim boutique. Take a look at fall denim from J Brand and Citizens of Humanity.

We have a TON of new styles from J Brand. Flare jeans are definitely prominent in J Brand’s fall collection. The great thing about it is they have a variety of different kinds of flares to choose from—ranging from a subtle bootleg to a full-on ‘70s-style flare. We’re also loving the dark vintage washes.

Citizens of Humanity killed it with their fall collection. There is literally something for everyone. The best way we can describe Citizens’ fall collection is clean, simple, and timeless. Lots of great retro washes, distressed looks, and slim-fit tapered styles. We’re really digging the boyfriend looks that they’ve incorporated into the line. And by boyfriend looks, we’re not talking boyfriend jeans. We mean loose-fitting and somehow still sophisticated jeans (see style #3 above).

Last week, we stumbled across a new YouTube web series called Project WomanKIND and we’re so glad we did. The recently launched series is from five curvy models looking to change the conversation around women’s body image.

After watching the teaser video for the series, we were instantly inspired by the vulnerability and honesty of these five women. Each one shares their own personal journey through body acceptance in hopes of encouraging other women to love their unique shape. This message is so important and something that isn’t highlighted enough. Beauty comes in all shapes and sizes and we’re glad to see Project WomanKIND bringing that conversation to the forefront.

Lately, we’ve worked with a handful of bloggers to try Fitcode and share their thoughts with their readers. Not only are we happy to see that each one LOVED the jeans they selected, but we also love seeing how they styled them.

Navy Grace & Pied

Another blogger we worked with was Camilla from Navy Grace (pictured above on the left). After taking our quiz and discovering that her Fitcode is 500, she went with these JOE’s Jeans (on sale right now for $83!).

After seeing Chiara from Pied A Terre blog (pictured above on the right) in the 7 For All Mankind jeans she chose, we couldn’t get over how incredible they looked on her. She absolutely nailed this look. 

Aika's Love Closet

From her violet hair to her totally unique style, we’re loving everything about Aika’s Love Closet. It was so much fun to see how she styled her new J Brand jeans from Fitcode. She won our hearts with this simple street-style look.

Lana from Decadent Dissonance looked hawt in these Citizens of Humanity skinnies. She rocked these jeans so perfectly—just look at the awesome pics in her blog post.

It’s a happy Friday, indeed! We don’t know about you, but one of our favorite times of year is the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale. It’s by far one of the best sales of the year—and it just opened up to everyone today! Because there’s so much to choose from and it can be a bit overwhelming (no, really, it can), we decided to share some of our favorite items.

Of course you’ll notice that we’ve selected a few of our favorite jeans including ones from Paige, 7 For All Mankind, JOE’S, and Hudson. There were so many great styles to choose from we had a hard time narrowing it down. We also couldn’t help but to include other items that are on our wish list.

Why You Should Care About Levi’s New Campaign

Last week, there was pretty big news in the denim industry. Levi’s announced a new women’s denim collection and their fall brand campaign. Sure, it sounds like no big deal—another season, another marketing campaign, right? Well, we don’t think so.

This campaign is the largest effort from Levi’s aimed at women since debuting their first pair of women’s jeans in 1934. That’s right … 1934! Surprising, no? Women clearly love their jeans, so we’re a little shocked to hear that this is their first attempt to appeal to a broad group of women since 1934. However, we are happy to see Levi’s addressing the importance of creating a denim line for women of all shapes and sizes. For a brand as large as Levi’s (inventors of the original blue jean), we’re surprised it’s taken this long for them to address the gap in the market. But then again, it’s no easy task. Regardless, we’re happy that Levi’s is shedding light on this issue.

Levi’s is also touching on the frustration with finding the perfect pair of jeans. We obviously share in that belief, so it’s great to see a big brand talking about it too. Levi’s CMO, Jennifer Sey, was quoted as saying "A lot of women feel like jeans aren't made for their body shape, and it's a frustrating experience, so we're looking to change that with this new collection."

There are a few other elements of the campaign that got us giddy. For example, we love that Alicia Keys is the face of the campaign. Especially when she kicks off the promotional video stating “All women are naturally badass.” Why yes, we’d have to agree. Can we also just mention how much we love these nostalgic pics of women in their Levi’s.

Overall, we were really excited to see the messaging behind this campaign. There’s still a long way to go when it comes to perfecting fit and truly representing women of all shapes and sizes. We just hope that what we’re doing here at Fitcode is also helping that effort.

5 Styles We're Loving: All Black Everything

We love our denim blues, but sometimes a girl just needs a good pair of comfortable black jeans. The best thing about black denim is you can dress them up or down so easily. We’re also big fans of wearing black from head-to-toe sometimes.

  1. Paige Verdugo Ankle: One word to describe how we feel about this pair: obsessed! The destructed look of these jeans give anyone who slips into them an effortlessly cool, street style vibe.
  2. 7 For All Mankind Mid Rise Original Bootcut: First off, we have to mention that these jeans are on sale for $99 (such a steal!). With flares making such a big comeback, these are a great way to ease into that trend—they’re bootcut, but definitely give off the flare look.
  3. J Brand Mid Rise Super Skinny: We love the classic look of these J Brand’s. They’re really stretchy, which makes them comfortable and non-restrictive. These aren’t a true denim (they’re made with J Brand’s Luxe Sateen fabric), so they’re great for dressing up.
  4. Hudson Love Mid Rise Bootcut: Don’t you hate when you have to constantly pull up your jeans after you sit down? Well, you won’t have that problem with these jeans, thanks to the high rise in the back. We love wearing these with pumps—they go well with the slight bootleg opening.
  5. NYDJ Sarah Classic Bootcut: The best thing about these jeans is the tummy smoothing high rise. Also, the length is perfect! They’re a classic chic pair that every woman should have in their closet.

Jeanius Moment: My 4 Favorite Skinnies

Hello, fellow jeans lovers! I’m Cari from the Fitcode team, and I’m excited to introduce myself to you.

Here’s a little bit about me ... I'm the mama to a super active 4-year-old boy, and believe strongly in a marriage of fashion and comfort. Never sacrifice one for the other! You’ll often find me in skinny jeans and Birkenstocks. My typical weekend this summer has consisted of hanging out in Lake Washington (on a floatie with a cup holder!), obsessing over my house plants, and making Açaí smoothies.

Here at Fitcode, my job title is ‘Jeanius’ (best job title EVER) and as you might expect, I spend a lot of time geeking out on jeans. Between hand selecting, measuring, helping film, and writing about all the various jeans and washes for our site, I have a lot of denim on the brain! My happiest moments at Fitcode happen when I read that a user selected a jean they never would have thought of, AND LOVED THE FIT!

Since I do have denim on the brain, I thought I’d share my four favorite skinny jeans with you. My Fitcode is 710 and I am 5’ 9” for your consideration, yet most of these are a universally great fit, so be sure to see if they're in your Fitcode too!

The Maria in Graphite from J Brand. I can’t express how good these feel! They’re a high waist skinny, but just enough to feel supported in the middle. Also, they don’t go above the belly button. The fit I own is a super skinny fit, but there is a Maria Straight Leg option now too if your ankles get claustrophobia. I bought the Graphite wash (a black jean) which has J Brand’s Photo Ready fabric: A thicker denim for shape support (which I love in a skinny jean)—it’s so stretchy and comfortable! It will stack a little at the ankles which is always chic in the fall but I’ve been cuffing them a little for summer.

The Ami Super Skinny Long from NYDJ. This is a skinny jean that is made for curves! It has a nice high rise and a body hugging fit in soft stretchy denim. Perfect for a curvy body—this isn’t another narrow cut skinny. This brand isn’t all ‘mom jeans’ anymore (as a mom, I’m not sure what that even means anyway). They have some really stylish new washes and fits. You get all the fashion of a skinny jean with the curve-friendly, well-made designs of NYDJ. One thing I love about this brand is they come in a wider range of sizes—more fits for more bodies!

The Verdugo in Vista from Paige. This brand knows how to make comfortable skinny jeans! You’ll want to wear these all week and grab them out of the wash first every time. Seriously, I could do yoga in these! The Verdugo is mid rise perfection with a body hugging fit. It comes in an ankle version too if you need less length or just want to show off your shoes. The Vista wash is a medium blue fade you can wear anytime of year. It’s also made with Paige’s Transcend fabric which you’ll swear is next to jammies in softness and doesn’t get those bunchy stretch lines.

The Racer in Patina from Citizens of Humanity. This is my all-time favorite “I know my booty looks good in these jeans” jeans. It’s cut smaller in the hips so we have the recommendations set to size up for you if this is in your Fitcode. These puppies are a low rise, so prepare to feel sexy! The low placement of the back pockets will make your butt look perky! The 3D shadowing on these are really slimming too. There is a little more room in the ankle and knee than a regular skinny, and they look great cuffed with sandals. Citizens always makes high-quality jeans that will last you a long time and will look even better with wear.

Hello, denim friends!

I’m going to make a slight departure from our normal denim-focused posts today and reflect on something much bigger and half as blue, our good ol’ country the United States of America. It’s been a big week for us Americans. The Pacific Northwest is going on our second straight week of 80+ degree weather (thank you sun Gods), the Supreme Court ruled that love truly does conquer all (thank you SCOTUS), and the USA Women’s national team advanced to the World Cup final (thank you Carli Lloyd). Oh, and this Saturday is our great nation’s birthday. I told you, big week.

I’ve always been a patriot. I was born and raised in small town USA. I grew up without the shackles of a society that believes women are less than. I had the freedom to question, explore, fail, and fly. And I mean really fly… I used to jump off my parents roof with a trash bag “parachute” over my head. Sorry about that, mom. I had the freedom to go to school and all the opportunities that an education affords. I could run fast, fall hard, but fight harder. I had these freedoms because of the country I was born into and it’s a privilege I will always be thankful for.

I’ve digressed, denim lovers, talking about freedom can do that to a gal! So while I’ll be back next week to bring you all the latest in skinny jeans and trouser legs, for now I want to encourage all of you to throw on your star spangled best this 4th of July and take a moment to realize how truly blessed we all are to live in this great country. Can I suggest these stars and stripes denim cut-offs?

We love her, kind of want to be her, but really just want in on how she does it! Well, let me give you your first hint … frayed denim! We are seeing more and more articles, pictures, and people on the streets wearing frayed denim and looking perfectly put together. And you know what? We’re absolutely loving it!

There was a recent article published on that talked about frayed denim being one of the biggest fashion trends this fall. It comes as no surprise to us that these raw cuts will be big, especially given the popularity of distressed denim for the past couple of years. If you want to up your street style game, this look should be your first stop.

5 Styles We’re Loving: Colored Denim

It’s officially summer! You know what that means? Time for bright colors and bold outfits. So for this week’s “5 Styles We’re Loving,” we’re sharing our favorite colored denim.

  1. Nico Mid-Rise Super Skinny by Hudson: I mean, what’s not to love about this style?! The bright fire engine red color and the minimal distressed look make these not only fun but chic. Oh, and they’re on sale for $124.
  2. Jude by J Brand: J Brand has a good selection of colored denim and this flamingo color is one of our favorites. Not too bright and not too skinny—perfect for keeping it casual. You can’t beat the $75 price tag either.
  3. High Waist Ankle Skinny by 7 For All Mankind in Dandelion: This pair is super chic! Cute to pair with wedges (as pictured above) or even flats. The high waist makes these are great if you’re going for that vintage look. Also, they’re on sale for $99!
  4. Nico Mid-Rise Super Skinny by Hudson: We know, we know. Yes, we put the same style in our top 5 twice. But … we just can’t get over this gorgeous green color (also, these aren’t distressed). This style also comes at a lower price of $88 (on sale).
  5. High Waist Ankle Skinny by 7 For All Mankind in Ultramarine: Here’s another style we’re unapologetically sharing twice. This blue color gives these jeans a sleek and modern look. If you’re planning a vacay this summer, you should definitely bring these jeans along.

Flares: Don’t Call It a Comeback

Fashion trends come and fashion trends go. This past spring, we saw flares come back in a big way. Everywhere we looked—from celebs to our favorite fashion bloggers—everyone was sporting this throwback vintage look. While they seem fresh and new again, flare jeans have actually been around for decades.

Back in the ‘70s, flares (aka “bell-bottoms”) were all the rage. Who can forget how beautifully Farrah Fawcett used to rock them? Then we saw a resurgence of the jeans in the '90s (flare jeans and floral tops were totally our jam).

The biggest struggle with flares is finding a pair without having to tailor them for the perfect length (Protip: your flares should just barely graze the floor). But brands are taking notice and making it easy for women to shop. Take 7 For All Mankind. They recently announced plans to release a line targeting women of “average” height. Whether or not you have to make the extra investment to get them tailored, we think they’re worth it. After all, it doesn’t look like they’ll be going away anytime soon.


It may be hard to break away from those skinnies, but we know there’s room in your wardrobe for both. So, give this retro look a try if you haven’t already.

Who doesn’t love a good deal?! We sure do. In fact, one of our favorite things to do is peruse our denim boutique and find great deals from our favorite denim brands. So for this week’s installment of “5 Styles We’re Loving,” we thought we’d share a few of those deals with you. Check them out below!

  1. Krista Super Skinny By Hudson: $119: These Hudson jeans are a great pair of skinnies with just the right amount of the distressed look. The skinny ankle-grazers make them great to pair with flats or heels.

  5. Skyline Skinny by Paige: $99: The Skyline Skinny from Paige should be a wardrobe staple. Easy to dress up or down and really comfy! Their wash gives them a hint of that vintage look, which is oh-so-hot right now.

New Brands on Fitcode: Kut from the Kloth and Hudson Jeans

Happy Tuesday, denim friends.

It’s been a beautiful few days out here in Seattle and we’re celebrating by adding two new denim brands to our collection! The Fitcode team has been hard at work hand-measuring and analyzing stacks of new jeans to release into our denim boutique, including new brands Kut from the Kloth and Hudson Jeans. We’re especially excited about the addition of Kut from the Kloth, as it’s our first denim brand under $100 ... you asked, we listened!

Brand Highlight—Kut from the Kloth

Kut from the Kloth jeans are curve friendly, have just the right amount of stretch, and come in an array of beautiful washes. Nearly 50% of all Kut jeans we measured had the unique addition of a third belt loop on the back (so, if belts are your thing, these jeans are for you).


The Diana Relaxed Skinny (as seen on me above, Fitcode 700 in a size 4) is a Fitcode staff favorite. It isn’t as baggy as a boyfriend jean but also not as tight as a skinny. The Diana is the perfect go-to for the gal who likes a more relaxed, easy feel to her jeans. These babies are super comfortable!



Katie, our karaoke singing, code slinging, designer extraordinaire, was gracious enough to participate in a lunch time photo shoot and boy am I glad she did! These Kut from the Kloth Diana Relaxed Skinny jeans (Fitcode 715, size 14) fit her perfectly. So much so, I think I saw her trying to sneak out of the office with them! Looking good, girl.



Ladies, meet Cari. Cari is our Fitcode Jean-ius (like that?) and the cutest thing you’ve seen in these Kut from the Kloth Catherine Slim Boyfriend jeans (Fitcode 715, size 4). Cari hand-measures all of our jeans, writes our quirky fit notes, and eats most of the office’s supply of jelly beans. Naturally, Cari styled these slim boyfriends perfectly, with a rolled leg and slouchy fit. We can all only hope to be half as stylish as this one. And yes, namast’ay in bed today too.

3 Reasons Why I Created Fitcode

Welcome to the Fitcode blog, Off the Cuff! I’m Rian, a founder here at Fitcode and the lucky lady who gets to introduce you to our company. If this is your first time here, you may be wondering who we are and why we do what we do, so here’s the 411. As a model and lover of all things fashion, I shop… a lot. While I’d love to spend my days strolling through stores while drinking iced coffee, realistically I’m traveling to and from jobs, walking my giant dog, or checking in over at team Fitcode. So, I end up doing most of my shopping online. Oh holy frustration! What should be an easy, pain-free process oftentimes becomes a whirlwind of wrong sizes, crumpled receipts, and return postage. I knew there had to be a better way and now there is … Fitcode! These are the 3 main reasons I created Fitcode and why I can’t wait to share it with you all.

  1. Unrealistic images. Clips, pins, Photoshop… oh my! After years of modeling, I know two things for certain. One, the left side of my face is prettier than the right. And two, very little is realistic about images online or in print (which my right side is thankful for). Jeans are clipped and pinned down the back to perfectly fit my leg, inches of fabric are added to lengthen pants, and don’t even get me going on Photoshop! What you need to know is this: A ton of effort goes into making a photo beautiful. What you see is very rarely what you get. At Fitcode, it’s important to us to show unedited and unaltered images and videos of real women in real jeans. There are no smoke and mirrors here.
  2. Same size, different shapes. Not all size 27’s are the same. After years in the fashion industry, I’ve learned two girls can be the same size but have very different shapes. I’ll use Bri (my co-founder) and myself as an example. I wear a size 27 and have a curvy figure. Bri wears a size 27 but has a straight figure. A killer pair of jeans on her could give me a muffin top for days, while a perfect pair of jeans for me may look like “mom jeans” on her. It may sound like a riddle but it’s nothing more than an acceptance of our unique shapes. Size is just a number and Fitcode looks beyond that number to pair women with jeans that flatter their unique figure.
  3. Lack of standardized sizing. I can wear a 27 in one brand, a 29 in the next, and maybe even a 26 in a third (maybe I’m pushing it with the 26 but you get the idea). Denim sizing isn’t standardized and it’s a huge pain in the bum for us all. Fitcode hand-measures all of our jeans and standardizes them in our fit details page so you can see inseam, waist, hip, and even rise measurements for the brands we offer. Oh, and did I mention we can also suggest the correct size for you in each jean? Yup, its true.
